Hidden Gem of Dorchester

So yesterday was Valentine's Day, and life was just about normal at our house, except that we went to a very lovely dinner at one of our favorite restaurants. About a year ago, some friends introduced us to 224, at 224 Boston Street, right at the South Boston-Dorchester line. You would never think to stop in to this place, because chances are that if you happen to be driving by it, you're probably on your way to the gas station, or the highway and not really looking for a trendy little eatery. Well, surprise to you. I wish I could give you a link to check out and see photos or a menu, but for some reason their website seems to have vanished. You'll just have to take my word for it. To give you an idea of the kind of cuisine you're looking at, here's what we had last night:
Appetizer
Roquefort Crusted Chevre, Savory Brie, Seedless Grapes, Warm Crostini and Smoked Kielbasa
(although I had wanted to order the Salad of Baby Spinach w/ a Sour Cream Ranch Dressing, Diced Pickled Beets, Toasted Pinenuts, & Seedless Cucumbers)

Main Courses
Roasted Statler Chicken with Sour Cream Mashed Potatoes and Sauteed Asparagus, w/ a Red Wine Reduction
~
Panko Crusted Haddock with Sauteed Green Beans and Grilled Lemon Slices

Wine: Lolonis, Ladybug White Cuvee

Dessert
Cinnamon & Nutmeg Scented Apple Bread Pudding w/ Vanilla Ice Cream and a Caramel Drizzle

Wines: a Pays d'Oc Shiraz and a Sauternes that I don't remember the name of

Espresso

Note:
224 does not take reservations for parties smaller than 5, so if you're just going with your spouse or sweetie, enjoy some of the bar's signature cocktails while you wait!
